Eye Wall
| Fabrication | CNC | Vacuum Forming | Mold-Making | Concrete |
In this project, my partner and I created a unique concrete block system that allows for variability in both the X and Y planes of the wall. This creates a pairing between the typical modular wall structure and allows for a more organic form.
The molds were made by creating MDF positives of each block quadrant on the CNC, taping together the quadrants required for the particular design, and then vacuum forming the resulting shape in plastic. The plastic shell is then supported by a wood substructure while the concrete is being poured. Insulation was inserted into the blocks prior to pouring to limit the weight of each piece and to make efficient use of the concrete mix.
